Small SUVs (2025): All models on the market

The best ideas come from everyday life. This was also the case recently in our company. Colleague Jörg drives an older Skoda Octavia. So far a good choice. But for him alone, a smaller format would be enough, he said. For example, a relatively small SUV like a Seat Arona. Not a bad idea, because even with it you can be on the road with four people.

So we pored over lists and looked at the current offer on the German market. Which SUV models are available up to about 4.20 meters in length as of the end of January 2025? Quite a few, but not infinitely many. For example, the new Opel Frontera is cheap, but an impressive 4.39 meters long. And the new electric Skoda Elroq even measures 4.49 meters.

Our overview starts with A for Alfa Romeo and ends with V for Volkswagen and Volvo. The prices given are rather approximate for comparison purposes. They change frequently, and there are often special models or special offers from dealers.

Alfa Romeo Junior

Alfa Romeo Junior

After quarrels over the actually planned name "Milano", the currently smallest (and newest) Alfa Romeo now operates as "Junior". This fits in with its clear format. Like some of its siblings from the Stellantis Group, the Junior is also available as a pure electric car.

Alfa Romeo Junior

Audi Q2

Audi Q2

The Q2 will not have a direct successor. Audi announced this some time ago. True to the group's new model designations, at most a purely electric Q2 e-tron would be conceivable. Be that as it may, the still current Q2 was launched in 2016, and a facelift took place in 2020. As one of the few small SUVs, it is also available with diesel and all-wheel drive.

Audi Q2
Length 4.22 meters

Height 1.55 meters
Trunk volume 355 - 1,050 litres

Citroen C3/e-C3

Whether as a gasoline or electric car: The new Citroën C3, launched in 2024, scores with a low price. In addition, it offers a relatively large amount of space at almost exactly four meters. The gasoline engines are available with or without a 48V mild hybrid. In 2025, a basic electric version with a range of 200 kilometres is also to be added to the range for just under 20,000 euros.

Citroën C3/e-C3

Dacia Spring

Dacia Spring

Can you already say SUV for this? Well, at least the smallest vehicle in our overview relies on a rustic look. In 2024, an extensive model update took place, which did the Dacia Spring good, especially visually. Technically, the performance and range (around 230 km) of the electric car remain manageable. However, the Chinese-built vehicle scores points in terms of price.

Dacia Spring
Length 3.70 meters
Width 1.58 meters
Height 1.52 meters
Trunk volume 288 - 1,004 litres
Drives Electric (44 - 65 hp)

Dacia Sandero Stepway

Dacia Sandero Stepway

The Stepway version of the popular Dacia Sandero is also more of a hybrid of small car and SUV. Compared to the normal Sandero, the Stepway has around four centimetres more ground clearance. A facelift took place in 2023. A technical feature is the Eco-G 100, a gasoline engine that can also be operated with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Dacia Sandero Stepway

DS 3

DS 3

Hardly anyone buys the DS 3, which was released in 2019 and revised in 2022. Yet it is quite chic. But unfortunately quite expensive. Whether as a combustion engine or electric car. After all, there is still a diesel on offer here as well.

DS 3

Width 1.79 meters
Height 1.53 meters
Trunk volume 350 - 1,050 litres
Drives Petrol (130 - 136 hp), Electric (156 hp)

The successor to the Fiat 500X has been on the market since 2023. Like many of its Stellantis Group relatives, the 600 of the 21st century relies on mild hybrid gasoline engines or pure electric drive. Incidentally, Fiat plans to launch the four-meter-long Grande Panda in the course of 2025.

Fiat 600
Length 4.18 meters
Width 1.78 meters

Ford Puma

One of Ford's last successful models is the Puma. It was launched in 2019, and a facelift took place in 2024. Brand new is the purely electric, but visually similar Puma Gen-E with a range of a good 500 kilometers. A special feature of the Puma is a removable tub in the trunk with a drain plug to clean the dog, for example.

Ford Puma
Length 4.19 - 4.23 meters

Hyundai Inster Cross

Hyundai Inster Cross

With the additional name "Cross", the new Hyundai Inster is dressed up mightily. The front and rear bumpers have been redesigned, and the 17-inch alloy wheels with a special design and embossed black trim also set their own accents. The standard roof rails also contribute to the adventurous look. We have to wait and see whether the roof rack in the pictures is also part of the standard equipment.

The small electric car is scheduled to launch at the end of 2025, and the "normal" Inster is already rolling into dealerships. Reach? Up to 370 kilometers.

Hyundai Inster Cross
Length 3.85 meters
Width 1.61 meters

Hyundai Bayon

Hyundai Bayon

The Hyundai Bayon ("pronounced Bähjenn") is not selling badly. But it is nowhere near the numbers of its larger SUV siblings. Maybe it's because the offshoot of the i20 only has a very small niche between the i20, i30 and Kona. In addition, there is an idiosyncratic look even after the 2024 facelift. If you like it: Insider tip!

Hyundai Bayon
Length 4.18 meters
Width 1.78 meters
Height 1.50 meters
Trunk volume 411 - 1,205 litres

Another mature small SUV: The Seat Arona was launched at the end of 2017 as the brother of the Ibiza. In 2021, there was the first model update. A second one will follow for both models in 2025, which increases the chance of cheap discontinued models.

Skoda Epiq

Skoda Epiq

Skoda's smallest all-electric SUV will probably not go into series production until the 2026 model year, i.e. not until the summer of 2025. The 4.10-metre-long Epiq with 490 litres of luggage space has already been shown as a near-production study. The target is a range of a good 400 kilometers and a starting price of about 25,000 euros.

Skoda Kamiq

Toyota Yaris Cross

Like its brother Lexus LBX, the Toyota Yaris Cross, which has been sold since 2021, also relies on full hybrid drives. In mid-2024, a visually rather inconspicuous model update took place. Under the abbreviation "AWD-i" there is an electric all-wheel drive.

Toyota Yaris Cross

Volvo EX30

Volvo EX30

Volvo EX30

We would also have predicted this car to be bigger: The electric Volvo EX30 is 4.23 meters long. Or short, as you like. With two motors ("Twin Motor"), the EX30 has all-wheel drive and accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds.
